HBM’s SMART team brings the solution

What opportunities do developers and general contractors have to solve the deep foundation challenges of a small project, on a short deadline, but do not want to compromise on quality and the use of state-of-the-art, sustainable technologies? Magyar Építők discussed the topic with Diána Liskány, head of HBM’s SMART department.

During project development, when the dynamic implementation of small-scale civil engineering tasks is required, fast and high-efficiency execution and closer contact with the client play a key role. HBM created the so-called SMART business unit two years ago to carry out such special civil engineering works often with short, two- to three-day deadlines, Diána Liskány told our magazine.

In the business unit specializing in pile foundation and mini and micropile drilling, in addition to higher efficiency, environmentally conscious technologies and machinery adapted to special needs (for example, working inside a building) appear as added value.

The essence of SMART is that planning, implementation, and follow-up are held in one hand, making information flow and decision-making more efficient and faster than in a multi-player system. This allows HBM to flexibly tailor its high-quality service to the customer’s individual needs while working more closely with the customer. In addition to increased efficiency, reducing costs and construction time are the benefits SMART delivers, Diána Liskány explained.

Time-dependent costs are also significantly reduced by the SMART team’s efforts to build long-term partnerships with its partner network. Thanks to this stable network, their services are now available throughout the country, from general contractors to developers for any type of customer.

The unit has served more than 20 customers since its establishment, with references such as industrial halls, bridge construction, public buildings, residential buildings, investments in the energy and utility sectors, and ancillary structures such as the foundation of tower cranes. For example, the reinforcement of the supports of the Sótony stone bridges can be highlighted from their work, on which they adapted to the local conditions by combining the micro-piling and soil mixing process. The SMART system has made it possible to meet customer needs within the given cost and time frame. In addition to bridge renovations, soil mixing technology may be particularly relevant in the conversion of existing structures.

Another special reference of SMART is the pile foundation made at the cement factory of Királyegyháza, where they worked at a continuously operating plant. Quality and occupational safety expectations are very high in such work areas, thus accurate work done on time is of paramount importance. In such a highly regulated environment, the professional challenge was to meet all the needs of the customer, the business manager explained.
